Scammers are constantly on the prowl and seniors are their favorite targets. For example:
- A young woman who sounds like your granddaughter calls you in a panic because she’s on vacation and needs $500 wired right away.
- An “official” email from the IRS arrives in your inbox demanding immediate payment of back taxes from several years ago.
- A pair of workers offer to repave your driveway at a great price, and then rob you blind while you’re out of the house.
The Italian American Veterans Museum will offer tips on how to detect and deal with these scams at a free seminar at 7 p.m. on June 6. Leading the presentation will be Philip A. Tenerelli, a lieutenant for the Bedford Park Police Department and president of the Italian American Police Association.
The Italian American Veterans Museum is located on the Third Floor of the Office Center at Casa Italia, 3800 Division St., Stone Park. For details visit iavmuseum.org or call 708-338-0690.
