Corbo welcomes kindred spirits to the museum

On March 29, 2023, IAVM Curator Steve Corbo gave a tour of the museum to USMC Veteran Ray Stripling, board member of the Friends of Fisher House Illinois and Veteran Mel Twining, founder of the Michael Nathan Twining Foundation and Champions 4 Heroes.

Fisher House is a network of housing facilities where military and Veteran families may stay at no cost, as long as necessary, while their family member is being treated at Veterans Administration or military healthcare facilities. Located adjacent to these treatment centers, Fisher Houses can be found throughout the United States and in Europe. They are literally “homes away from home,” based on the concept “A Family’s Love Is Good Medicine.”

The Michael Nathan Twining Foundation and Champions 4 Heroes honors Mel’s son, an Army Staff Sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division who, because of exposure occurring from combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, developed a fatal brain tumor. A former boxer, Mel is dedicated to uniting Veterans and boxing champions to promote advocacy, provide resources and educate on the effects of traumatic brain injury.
