Vietnam Veteran and Far South Side historian C.J. Martello spoke about the Italian American Veterans Museum at a meeting of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America’s Leone D’Oro Lodge #2700 on March 20, 2023, at the American Legion Hall in Tinley Park. Martello is the author of Petals From Roseland, a column about the Far South Side Italian-American community, which he pens monthly for Fra Noi, the Chicago-area Italian-American magazine. He’s also a huge fan of the museum and spoke before a capacity crowd about our heartfelt exhibits and impressive array of memorabilia. He ended his presentation with a 5-minute reading from the flight diary of fellow Far South Sider, Lt. Col. Fred J. Olivi, the co-pilot of “Bockscar,” the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki.
