USS Chicago Returns from final deployment

The Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Chicago (SSN 721) returned to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam following a seven-month deployment on Nov. 2, 2022. It was the submarine’s final deployment before decommissioning, which is scheduled to begin in 2023 following 37 years of service. USS Chicago departed Pearl Harbor March 28, 2022, for a regularly-scheduled deployment, during which the submarine and its crew performed a full spectrum of operations, including anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare in the Indo-Pacific region. Commissioned on Sept. 27, 1986, it was the 34th Los Angeles-class submarine and the fourth U.S. Navy ship to be named for the city of Chicago.
